ACE Grading Review 2026: Prices, Turnaround and ACE vs PSA

ACE Grading review 2026: prices, turnaround and ACE vs PSA for European collectors – NN SPORTS

This ACE Grading review is our take, as NN SPORTS, for European collectors weighing a UK grader against PSA. ACE Grading is based in Banbury, England, and is well known among collectors in the UK and Europe. Below we cover the practical facts — ACE card grading UK prices, turnaround, shipping and customs, the slab, the grading report and resale — then explain why we trust ACE more today in an ACE grading vs PSA comparison. Prices and turnaround come from ACE's and PSA's official websites; the opinion section is clearly labelled as ours. Written on October 31, 2026. Prices as listed on ACE's site in October 2026 can change, so always check acegrading.com/pricing before you submit.

What is ACE Grading?

The company behind the slabs is Ace Grading Ltd, registered in England and Wales (company no. 13365699). Its grading centre is at Unit 5, Canada Close, Banbury, OX16 2RT, according to its How to Submit page. The review site Cardboard Journal says ACE launched in the UK in 2021 and is best known in the Pokémon and TCG market. On its supported cards page, ACE lists standard-size sports cards (6.4 × 8.9 cm, such as Topps and Panini), thick and patch cards up to 360pt (9 mm), metal cards and printing plates. That means it takes the same soccer cards we sell: Topps, Panini, Donruss and Futera.

ACE grading prices in 2026 (official)

ACE charges per card, in GBP by default (its pricing page can also show EUR, USD, CAD, JPY, AUD and NZD). Turnaround times are estimates in business days. These are the tiers listed on acegrading.com/pricing in October 2026:

ACE servicePrice per cardEstimated turnaround
Core (AceSelect members only)£12.0075 business days
Value (AceSelect members only)£14.0060 business days
Basic£18.0030 business days
Standard£22.0015 business days
Premier£28.0010 business days
Ultra£50.005 business days
Luxury£100.002 business days

The standard label is free. A Colour Match label costs £1.00 per card and a hand-drawn Ace Label costs £3.00 per card. Subgrades for corners, edges, surface and centering are included for free. ACE also offers reholders, crossovers and authentication, and the invoice is created once grading is complete. The AceSelect membership costs £199.00 a year. It unlocks the Core and Value tiers, and new members get £100 of grading credit (an offer ACE lists for memberships started before December 31, 2027). ACE also says turnaround is not guaranteed and that it may pause service levels when capacity is reached.

Turnaround: how long does ACE grading take?

ACE publishes an estimate for every tier: 30 business days for Basic, 15 for Standard, 10 for Premier, and down to 2 days for Luxury. On top of that, add DHL transit both ways, which ACE puts at 1 to 4 days. Grades are revealed in your ACE dashboard. For comparison, PSA's official price list gives 70–80 business days for Standard ($59.99) and 50–60 for Priority ($79.99). Its Value tier reopened on October 29, 2026 at $39.99 (€39.99 in Europe) with an estimate of 90–100 business days.

Shipping and customs from Europe and Switzerland

This is where ACE stands out for European collectors. According to its international submitters page:

  • Free inbound shipping to the UK through ACE's DHL Express integration (terms apply). ACE only accepts submissions sent through this integration.
  • No customs form to fill in. The integration uses DHL Paperless Trade, so the customs data is sent to DHL automatically.
  • Import fees on the return are covered. ACE's FAQ says it "covers all import fees/taxes via DHL Express paperless exports".
  • Minimum order and return shipping by zone. Europe Zone 1 (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain): 20 cards minimum, €35 return shipping. Switzerland is in Europe Zone 2: 20 cards minimum, €57.50 return shipping. ACE may charge £20 if a box is under the minimum.
  • Box size: up to 31 × 24 × 17 cm, otherwise a £20 penalty may apply. Cards must be in a sleeve and a semi-rigid holder.

For a Swiss collector, a 20-card ACE order therefore has a fixed and published shipping cost (€57.50 return, inbound free). Sending to PSA usually means arranging your own insured shipping or using a service, then paying import charges on the return. We broke that down in How much does PSA grading cost from Switzerland? PSA did open a facility in Frankfurt for EU collectors on September 15, 2026. Switzerland is not in the EU, so check with PSA whether Swiss orders are accepted there. If you are in Switzerland, we also recommend confirming the import fee coverage with ACE before your first order.

Slab, label and the ACE grading report

ACE uses a crystal-clear custom slab. There are three label styles: Standard (the classic look, with a gold highlight for Gem Mint 10s), Colour Match (the label is matched to the card) and the hand-drawn Ace Label artwork. The back of the slab carries a QR code, a hologram and the cert number, which you can check with ACE's online certification lookup. The grading scale uses whole grades from 1 (Poor) to 10 (Gem Mint). Centering is measured to a thousandth of a millimetre, and a Gem Mint 10 needs front centering better than 60/40. According to its grading reports page, every card is checked by at least two graders, including a Senior Grader. Free subgrades cover corners, edges, surface and centering. For eligible certificates, ACE also sells a detailed Grading Report with Points of Interest on a reference image and Additional Observations — built, ACE says, so collectors can understand why a card received its grade. ACE does not slab cards it finds altered or counterfeit, and those cards stay out of the population report. Want to see how this compares with PSA's scale? Read PSA grades explained.

Pop report and resale value

ACE publishes a population report for the cards it has graded, and a certification lookup, on acegrading.com. Resale is where you need to be realistic. Cardboard Journal notes strong recognition in the UK and Europe, but limited recognition in the US sports card market. It also notes that ACE appears in eBay's professional grader filter but is not part of eBay's Authenticity Guarantee. The Irish site Board & Brewed reports that an ACE 10 usually sells above a raw copy but well below a PSA 10. For a high-end soccer card that you plan to sell to US buyers, PSA is still often the safer commercial choice. For your personal collection, a club set or cards that you sell in Europe, ACE's price, speed, labels and report transparency make a lot of sense in our view. More on this choice in Raw or graded cards: which should you choose?

What collectors have been reporting about PSA (2025–2026)

The points below are reported complaints and media coverage, not court findings against PSA. We link each source so you can judge for yourself.

  • Grade swings on resubmission. In June 2025, The Athletic covered a widely discussed experiment in which a YouTube collector cracked PSA 9s and resubmitted them: many came back the same, but a large share returned as 10s while others were downgraded or called altered — feeding the hobby debate that the same card can receive different PSA grades. Collectors on forums have posted similar anecdotes (for example this baseball-cards thread about a resubmitted 6 returning as a 10). PSA's own terms state that grading involves subjective professional opinions.
  • Price hikes, longer estimates and a huge backlog. Hobby outlet CLLCT reported PSA raising select prices and turnaround estimates in September 2025. PSA itself published further pricing and turnaround updates in February 2026, then in May–June 2026 paused new Value-tier submissions amid a backlog approaching 10 million items — also covered by Sports Collectors Digest.
  • Class-action allegations of inconsistent grading. In July 2026 a proposed class action (reported by Dexerto) alleged that PSA markets grading as objective and consistent while results can vary, including on resubmissions. These are allegations only; nothing has been proven in court. In August 2026, Collectors told The Athletic that a grade is an expert opinion and that grades cannot be bought, pressured or litigated into existence.
  • Suspicions of damaged or swapped cards. Some collectors have publicly claimed cards came back more damaged than submitted, or looked different (for example this r/psagrading thread). These remain individual accusations online; we have not verified them as proven fact against PSA.
  • Slab / case quality complaints. Submitters have also reported slabs arriving cracked, flexing or separating at the seams — for instance a March 2026 r/psagrading post about sealed-pack slabs. Again, these are customer reports, not independent laboratory findings.

Our take: why we trust ACE more today

This section is the personal opinion of the NN SPORTS shop owner. It is not a legal claim against PSA or Beckett.

In our opinion, the graded-card market has long been dominated by PSA and Beckett. In December 2025, PSA's parent company Collectors agreed to acquire Beckett, so the two historic brands now sit under the same corporate family (see ESPN and Sports Collectors Digest; Beckett is described as remaining an independent brand within Collectors).

With the problems collectors and the media have reported over the last year — grade inconsistency on resubmissions, price and backlog pressure, and suspicions of cards being damaged or changed — we believe PSA is losing credibility with a part of the hobby. The process often feels opaque: you get a number on a label, but not a clear public explanation of why that number was chosen. In our experience and reading of the hobby, the same card sent twice can come back with different grades, which is hard to square with the idea of a stable standard.

With ACE, it is another story. Free subgrades are on every card, and ACE's Grading Reports (Points of Interest and Additional Observations on eligible certs) are built so you can see why the card got that grade. That transparency matters to us as dealers and collectors.

About market price: in our opinion it is the collector who gives a card its price, not the letters "PSA" on the label. The mentality in the hobby needs to change. An ACE Gem Mint 10 with a clear report is, for us, more viable and honest than a PSA 10 where you do not really know why the 10 was awarded. We believe things need to change — including for PSA, if it wants to regain trust.

None of this means PSA slabs have no resale power (especially toward US buyers). It means that for the cards we hold, grade and recommend from Europe, we trust ACE more today.

How much does ACE grading cost?

In October 2026, ACE listed Basic at £18.00, Standard at £22.00 and Premier at £28.00 per card, with Core (£12.00) and Value (£14.00) for AceSelect members. See the official price list.
